Junkyard

In 8th grade, I entered a Kongregate game jam and made a game called Junkyard. It was a kinda cool project, but as a game, it was terrible. The original version was very slow because map chunks wouldn’t disappear even if they weren’t on screen, and the game jam had an optional modifier of “no words,” which I adhered to, giving the game no instructions and hoping the player would figure it out for themselves. The game also wasn’t fun to play since it was not challenging, there was no end or well-defined goal, and it barely had a sense of progression. I eventually fixed the performance issues and added instructions in the Kongregate sidebar, but game design issues still stand.

I don’t think I’ll fix or remake this game, but I do like the idea of a making another procedurally-generated game in the future.
